How To Use The Ned Rig

When the weather starts to cool, and the water temps drop perch can hold up in tight aeras and the Ned rig is the perfect method to slowly twitch your lure through the swim. The secret to the success of the Ned rig lies in the buoyant material the lures are made from. When mounted on to a jig head and cast out, the lure stands on end, perfectly mimicking a feeding bait fish or worm on the lake or river bed. There are a number of ways you can fish the Ned rig, but the most popular and effective is the ‘twitch, twitch, pause’ technique that causes the lure to shuffle along the bottom enticingly.

We show you how to use the Ned to target big perch in a tight area. The Ned is a style of jig fishing. It's quite different to normal fishing. Here we describe how to work the Ned and target big perch.

Here we use a light jigging rod, 14 or 15 grammes, but you can use a drop shot rod. On that rod, we have a 2,500 diver reel, a 10 pound braid and a 6 to 8 pound fluorocarbon leader

The Lure is the most important part. We tie it directly to the Fluorocarbon as jig fishing requires finesse. Here he was a Shroomz Jig Head from Z-Man

So go out there and grab yourself some fish and get your local river or even your like try and catch yourself some big. Let the lure sink down to the bottom and hop along.
